Where to begin ….

Cockroach! Jeff Dotseth rejoined the Xtra Sports 1360 airwaves earlier this week. Teamed up with Josh Rosenberg for the drive home, the on-air banter compliments the sports-talk in the afternoon. Yesterday, Nick Canepa joined in on the fun as Josh and Jeff talked all about sports from Padres, Clippers, and Aztecs. Nick gently ribbed Jeff was like a cockroach in radio always surviving and turning up on the airwaves. Noted: Nick made a draft round pick for the then-San Diego Clippers!

Podcasts of the show, along with Dan Patrick, and others, are available at XtraSports1360 web site.

Yesterday, 101.5 KGB’s Chris Boyer was attacked by Chrissy Russo of Fox 5. The on-television and radio event was to show self defense. Chrissy sent out via Twitter this morning: “Boyer did a great job yesterday at our self defense demonstrations. A lot of peeps have been asking, it’s MMA Academy in Sorrento Valley.”

The only thing that could have saved him was Chainsaw’s Jack Bauer ….. When Google can’t find something, it asks Jack Bauer for help.

Last week, Bob Bolinger returned to a familiar seat, desk, and office building in San Diego. He was named Senior Vice President and Market Manager in San Diego. Bob previously managed KyXy and Radio Sophie stations from 1998 to 2005. He also worked for Group W at KJQY 103.7 from 1984 to 1985.

Liberty One Media announced the return of progressive media to San Diego at a gathering at the Veteran’s Memorial on Mount Soledad July 4th with supporters and the press attending. Liberty One announced that ‘pod-casts’ will begin production this September. Radio broadcasting is slated in January 2010 and promises a full lineup of San Diego and national progressive talk radio personalities.

“We are in discussions with several radio stations to secure a broadcasting frequency with the goal of securing a strong signal to reach from the border to Camp Pendleton,” said Sal Magallanez, Liberty One’s General Manager. “We will not have the same problems that plagued KLSD, with a weak signal that did not reach half the county.” He added, “We want Liberty One to be a community radio station. We are going to try things that have never been tried before.”

The group is requesting donations at Liberty Radio.

Last week’s memorial services had the City of the Angels as the center of the universe. Tommy Sablan of Star 94.1 did yeoman’s work of reporting last Tuesday from the Staples Center.

Tommy writes from his web page.

“The service was incredible and what I remember the most will always be at the end when the microphone came down a little and I was thinking Janet was going to say something to the crowd, but it was Michael’s 11 year old daughter Paris and the words and emotion that came out will always be remembered by me and millions of others.”

“The one thing cool about Tuesday’s Michael Jackson service was that a lot of radio and television stations called me to talk to them all across the country and in Canada, Australia, London, and more. I was literally on at least 26 shows Tuesday. BUT, the one thing that will make my mom really happy is that I did 3 radio stations on the island of Guam where my family is from and one TV station KUAM on Guam.

“I know my mom will be happy and proud when I tell her I was on the radio in Guam and on television. Each time I was on a show, I would mention my mom and my dad and how much Guam is part of my life.”

Also noted: Shotgun Tom Kelly, at KEARTH 101 presented one Michael Jackson fan passes to last Tuesday’s event. The memorial services had fans from around the world in Los Angeles.

Today, PPM makes its mark in San Diego. Pre-Currency look have some interesting changes and trends for the market. Arbitron is rolling out the new way of rating the audience and for the first time, includes non-commercial stations, like KPBS-FM and KSDS, and also on-line audio streams.

Aribtron reports that the PPM system automatically reports audience exposure to inaudible codes embedded in a broadcast signal. The rating service is providing the PPM encoders free of charge and report PPM audience estimates for all FCC-licensed AM and FM radio stations.

Also expected to make an announcement very soon are Tony & Kris and their return to radio. Where exactly is not known. Fans can follow them at MySpace.com.
