cliff.jpgKOGO’s Program Director Cliff Albert marks 30-years in the radio market today! Known for his news duties in the market, it began across town at KFMB-AM 760.

1170 KCBQ’s Mark Larson writes about Cliff. “Yup, this week marks his 30th anniversary in San Diego radio! Paul Palmer and I hired him back in 1979. He couldn’t move until his wife had their second child (nice timing). So it wasn’t until July that he pulled into town to begin his historic tenure at KFMB.”

Mark continues, “I hired him in 79, then 25 years later he hired me at KOGO. So I figure that next time, in 2029 it’ll be my turn to hire Cliff again. Even though we might not have a clue what we’re doing by then. Clearly, no one else has the news savvy he has, and Clear Channel’s very fortunate to have him.”

At KOGO, he writes and produces his “Cliff Notes on the News” news commentaries. These are heard weekday mornings on KOGO, and have won top awards including several Golden Mics. He has won numerous local and national awards for journalism excellence from the San Diego Press Club, the Associated Press and United Press International. He also has earned a National Headliners Club Award and an International Radio-TV News Directors Association Award. Cliff also has been honored by the San Diego Press Club as recipient of the award for “Enlightened News Management”.

tday.jpgThroughout the years Cliff was one of the first persons on air when “something happened” in the area when at KFMB and presently at KOGO. From earthquakes, 9/11, and raging fires, Cliff was the sounding board, and the calming voice when calamity came here to roost. He can also be heard behind the mic as a talk show host, and the above mentioned “Cliff Notes on the News”. In an industry that at best is a roller coaster ride, to mark three decades in the same market is indeed, a milestone. Sample his notes at Cliff’s page at KOGO.

hEAR Wax: Does KSON’s Kimo Jensen have hair to dye for? ….. His wife, Shannon Leder is heard weekends at KPRi-FM 102.1. … Former radio talk show host Stacy Taylor can be heard via podcast. His musings are available for download at StacyTaylor.com. … What’s up with Jeff and Jer at Star 94.1? Will they, as Tom Blair suggest, fade out at the end of August, or will they resign at Clear Channel. Or will they follow the bouncing ball? Most likely, they will be on air waves on San Diego come September. Their present contract ends next month …. Stay Tuned.
