MEC Network Top 40/Rhythmic BLAZIN’ 98.9 has let all of its programming and on air staff. Those out include Chris Loos, and music directer and afternoon host Vanya.
It was suggested that XESPN may find its way to FM or ….. Stay Tuned.

Dave Mason writes: One week from tomorrow, the “Remastered” Beatles hit the stores. 105.7 The Walrus, in conjunction with EMI –has them NOW. Clearer, more consistent and as some said “The experience is much the same as hearing them on vinyl for the first time”.
Dave adds, “When The Beatles came out on CD in 87, the thought was they were clean, but very flat. The engineers at EMI spent four-years working on EVERY ONE of the Beatles original albums. You can definitely hear the difference. And beginning Friday at 12 noon- we’ll play a remastered Beatles song every 20 minutes through Wednesday (when the CD’s hit the stores).. We’re also giving away FIVE complete CD sets, one MONO Box Set and one STEREO box set. Each CD has a “mini documentary” surrounding the creation of that particular album. It’s really cool stuff.”
Dave also tells that this event, while special is “not worthy of a special announcement (hee hee) - -but as far as I know “The Walrus” is the only San Diego station that’s GIVING AWAY THE BEATLES.”

A San Diego radio pro and on-air host, who kindly asked to remain anonymous … asked me to post this:
I have a special announcement. I’m not making any more special announcements. BOTH of the over-hyped “special announcements” in light of the potential landing place for Jeff and Jer are another reason why radio gets such a bad rap. Both stations should be ripped to shreds for hyping something that turns out to be a non-event. It’s just my take.
You are RIGHT ON with your letter to Clear Channel. Too bad it will fall on blind eyes. Unfortunately they’re so focused on saving every penny so certain corporate muckety-mucks can fly around the country surveying their empire than they’ve totally abandoned the audience. But you can only blame the politicians!! Let’s face it. The FCC was created to make sure that radio served the general public. Oh sure, they regulated stupid things like PSA’s and other irrelevant “community service” requirements- but dropping the regs as they did when multiple ownership came to be started a slide that continues today.
They won’t learn. But TV didn’t learn either. They started their death march when they allowed Cable TV to advertise…telling people there are other choices. Not that the public couldn’t figure it out for themselves – but why give people reasons to listen/watch elsewhere?
I just had to share about the “Special Announcement” deal. I grew up in radio in the age of “hype”, and self-promotion. But we hoped for a payoff for the listener when we urged them to listen at 7:20. These were no payoff. These were just plain stupid. It’s gonna hurt them—and the industry.

Mount Wilson, Los Angles main transmitter site for FM and Television, remains in harm’s way. A total of 22 TV stations and 25 FM radio stations have towers and broadcasting equipment on Mount Wilson. Los Angeles basin police and fire radio facilities are also on the mountain.
