The GelderHead Thought Of The Day: All achievements, all earned riches, have their beginning in an idea. ~~ Napoleon Hill - What is your idea?

Lee Hacksaw Hamilton and XX 1090 are expected to announce a deal today. He’ll take on the afternoon drive.

Associated with sports for a very long time in San Diego, Lee was last heard on Xtra Sports San Diego. He is also calling NFL games, also heard at ESPN 800 AM. Busy man, but that’s the way Lee has worked in the past.

Known for his quality sports report, Lee is very welcomed back to the airwaves.

Noted: ESPN 800 will simulcast on FM 98.9 starting in October. The co-owned station was previously an urban station. ESPN Radio will have the post season baseball, so this comes at good time.

~~

Rush Limbaugh, heard on KOGO and KFI has donated $500,000 to the Los Angeles medical institution. This was the place he credits with saving his hearing in 2001. The House Ear Institute received the donation in memory of tDr. Antonio De la Cruz. The doctor just passed away from complications of lymphoma on July 31, at age 65.

~~

Somebody at CBS radio woke up and saw the future. They have picked up Adam Corolla’s podcast and are sending it nationwide via many stations. Tagged as K-ACE, the program will have opportunities for CBS to sale.

The GelderHead Thought Of The Day: No matter how much cats fight, there always seem to be plenty of kittens. ~ Abraham Lincoln

09.jpgGelderHead Productions, offering professional voice-over services to enhance business communications, announced today that it is spearheading the continued production of “Holiday Magic © 2009, a Gift for Children of all Ages,” a CD featuring music and a holiday tale that will be distributed to sick children at Children’s Hospital and their siblings. A number of singers and actors donated their talent for the CD, and funds are currently being solicited to cover the cost of production and ensure as many children as possible receive them.

Jeff Gelder, owner of GelderHead Productions, distributed 1500 CD’s to four hospitals in 2007 and 1500 CD’s to eight hospitals in 2008; he hopes to exceed that number this year and plans to “play Santa” in December at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego.

Donations are requested throughout the year. Checks of any denomination should be made out to GelderHead Productions (with Children’s Hospital CD Fund on the memo line) and sent to P.O. Box 3386, San Diego, CA 92163-3386, or donate via Paypal at www.HolidayMagicCD.com and click on “Make a Donation.”

Please call or email for 501c3 tax deductible donation details.

The tale on the CD is weaved by Jeffrey the Surfer Reindeer and Santa Claus as they make their way from the North Pole to visit the children. Along the way they meet Jeffrey’s cousin, Carlito, who lives at the Wild Animal Park. In 2007 we were introduced to Kate the adventurous teenage reindeer from Milwaukee, and every year there are new exciting characters.

The talent last year was remarkable, and included award winning actress and singer Nichelle Nichols (Lt. Uhura on Star Trek) and her talented sister Marian Michaels, Broadway actress Ashley Fox-Linton (from Del Mar, CA) and Sam Bass of KyXy 96.5fm. Listen to music clips online at www.HolidayMagicCD.com.

Other performers who generously lent their talent to the CD are singer, songwriter Karl Anthony, nationally acclaimed voice actors Connie Terwilliger and Donna Reed, Sony recording artist James Higgins, Kenny Wesley, AudioGirlProductions.com, and more. Microsoft manager and writer Mark Patterson penned the script, and professional speaker Phillip Tanzilo, voice actors Greg Dehm, Heather Martinez, and Gelder also of KyXy 96.5fm, plays Santa Claus, Carlito, Kate and Jeffrey the Reindeer respectively.

The first CD was produced six years ago, when Gelder was tasked in a Landmark Education class to come up with a project that would enhance the community and ultimately take on a life of its own. That’s just what has happened, as Gelder now fields many inquiries about the CD all year long. “This year we hope to once again have CD’s for Children’s Hospital’s in San Diego, Milwaukee, Miami, Albuquerque, Orange County, New Orleans, Houston, and New York and we’ve had requests from other hospitals around the country.

For every $3.00 donation a child will receive a CD of their own,” says Gelder. “This is a labor of love that is received with much joy by children who are unfortunately spending the holiday season in the hospital and their siblings, who often crave attention due to so much being given to the ailing member of their family,” Gelder said. “We appreciate all donations! The more donations the more children that will be receiving a CD.”

      About GelderHead Productions

GelderHead Productions offers professional voice-over and/or on-camera talent for commercials, narration, and spokesperson or emcee needs. Owner Jeff Gelder believes in giving back to the community, thus he is proud to produce a holiday CD that is distributed free to children who are confined to the Hospital during the most festive time of the year. For more information, visit www.GelderHead.com.

Personal note: I’m 52-years old today; and it is indeed, a very happy birthday. For those keeping score at home, I’m as recovered as I can be from a pedestrian vs. car of nearly five year ago. It was that close; and I don’t mind having birthdays anymore — and more importantly, I look both ways thrice … before crossing a street. See you on the radio today, breaking news when it happens, enjoy the day.

Loren Nancarrow is returning to be San Diego County’s on-TV weatherman. He’ll be found at Fox 5 San Diego very soon. Since Loren left Ch. 10, the weather has been out of whack. That’ll change with Loren back in the forecasting business. He joked on his Facebook page, “The News 8 Ranch became the 10 News Ranch, and now the sign will read Welcome to the Fox 5 Ranch. Either the ranch has an identity problem or I have issues holding a job.”

            ~~

Further ripples of change outside the market are having an impact. Thursday morning, KFI’s Bill Handle told his 5 a.m. hour audience they could find the recently departed Dr. Laura Schlessinger just down the dial on KOGO. Nice plug to AM 600. In LA, Laura moved from KFI to cross-town talker KFWB in the Los Angeles market. KOGO has a city grade signal in most parts of Orange County.

CBS Les Moonves’ Thursday appearance at an investors’ conference. Moonves indicates that CBS is open to selling off more assets. On his recent Q2 call, the only kind of assets he mentioned in that regard were radio stations. As for possible expansion at CBS, that won’t happen in the radio group, but it might in other business segments. (via Radio-Info)

It is official: Roger Hedgecock joins long time friend in LA. Dr. Laura will be the lead in for the Radio Mayor at KFWB. He begins his broadcast today at 980 AM.

Bill Tanner, the man who can rhyme in time on a dime, is always makin’ statements during KSON’s morning show of Cliff and Company. He’s also starting something, and secret ops at the country station caught him makin’ a fashion statement.

Just a dab will do it; and the morning man won’t quit his day job — thankfully. Hear him, along with Cliff, Morgan, Tori, and Tanner-tainment at 97.3 FM / 92.1 FM KSON.

laura.jpgThere is a major shift happening in Los Angeles. Starting today, Dr. Laura Schlessinger is heard on KFWB at noon. She remains on KOGO locally in San Diego. AM 600 could be a potential winner in this as Inland Empire and some parts of Orange County may receive San Diego’s station better than KFWB. Her last day in LA was Friday on KFI.

laura.jpgAnother causality in the program shift is AM 540. Operated by Mount Wilson Broadcasting from Los Angeles, prime programming was pulled from LA’s KGIL. Shows including Laura Ingraham, forced owner Saul Levine to change programming at the two stations.

LA’s 1260 has moved to Retro 1260, and AM 540 from Baja, is expected to begin broadcasting Spanish language religious programming.

Roger Hedgecock is expected to land the afternoon drive with his nationally syndicated show.

Also starting today is Bill Handel’s noon to 2 p.m. show on KFI and is syndicated by Premiere Radio. The two hour show will not be similar to the morning show, nor his weekend. He told his audience last week it would focus on the “big stories of the day”.

Is this the week Rich Berra lands in San Diego? With no official announcement made, internal comments have suggested that the JohnJay and Rich show will be part of the San Diego morning skyline. Stay Tuned.

acdc.jpgTommy Sablan went to the AC/DC concert the other night. Tommy writes: “Last night, I went to see ACDC in concert! Before the show, I met Laura and a long time friend of ours named Sandi Smith at a “bakery” across the street from the Sports Arena where we sat down and ate a nice dinner.”

Tommy adds: “The concert was great! I loved every minute of it, EXCEPT the fact that everyone was like idolizing the devil and 1 out 10 people wore those devil horns on their head. All night long, I was saying the LORDS PRAYER to myself but loving the music. ACDC must be living right and living healthy, because they look and sounded great for their ages. Their easy chord structured songs are the easiest to play on guitar, but are considered masterpieces. Every song had the same 3-4 chords and sound, but they all were great. It was a great Rock and Roll Show! I loved it! Looking out in the crowd and people watching was fun. You saw people TRAPPED in the 80’s and look like they never stopped living like they did and still kept the same haircut. You saw men in their 40’s bringing their kids.

The one thing I do need to tell you about last night was Barbara Lee Edwards from Channel 8! OH MY GOSH! She was gorgeous, sexy, and stunning in a Rock and Roll way last night. Her husband must go to bed every night with a smile on his face. Barbara is the nicest person around. For the last couple of years, she’s become a good friend of mine and she is very caring and she gives me some great advice and she is just a good person and San Diego is very lucky to have her. She looks great on television and she’s all professional, but if you ever get a chance to see her out of her news element, God has blessed you.

See the complete blog at JeffandJer.com, under Tommy’s blog.

music4.jpgHer name is Kevan Christine, and she has an exhibit coming up. I’m a San Diego based music photographer and recently I created a new exhibit that will feature musicians from San Diego, Los Angeles and other areas.

The exhibit project is entitled “Musicians | Volume1″. The point of the project to to show that there are wonderfully talented musicians and bands out there that push and struggle every day to have their music heard. They don’t do it for the uncertain promise of glamour, money or rows of screaming fans. They do it because they have to. They have to create in order to live and breath.

This first installment features nineteen solo musicians and bands from across the United States. Volume 1 is a specific focus on the musicians in my hometown of San Diego, California. While all the musicians involved are of a wide variety of genres they all have a common ground….music is life and without it there would be no purpose.

The project will be on exhibit September 12 - October 8, 2009 at The Office in North Park. The opening reception will be the upcoming night of September 12 with live music by a few of the participating musicians.

Please check out the project website for more information at MusiciansVolume1.com .

dt.pngDavid Tanny, another San Diego based blogger tells about his changes at DavidTanny.com. David writes: “The website contains a 10 year old radio news and views blog, a gallery of past radio station logos, an HD Radio store in case anyone cares, a radio and TV database containing information about the Southern California radio and TV stations, an Internet radio station page, video arcade, optical illusions, Saturday Morning cartoon schedules of the 60s-80s, daytime TV schedules of the 60s-present, The Advetures of the O.B. Ranger page, a streaming rock and comedy radio station, a section for funny videos, and more.

“There are also playlists for the podcast shows that I produce for the Internet. There are also links to many social networking sites that I am on.

“There’s The Dementia and More Project (or DaMP) where I feature new and unreleased recordings of funny and weird songs. Visitors are welcome to submit some links to publicize their comedy stuff and even sell them on my page too.

“Last but not least, I have a store where I sell my comedy and dementia CDs and mp3 sets. Some of the mp3s can be sampled at my soundclick page. “Yes Parking Anytime” has song parodies, a salute to Free Radio San Diego, radios, cars, celebrities, nerdcore, and other novelty stuff. It’s found on CD Baby. My other two CDs, “This Side Up”, and “No Static on Channel 3″,
have more comedy and dementia selections. My last CD, “Rap With Howard”, is a Dickie Goodman-style collection of break-in recordings including three “So-Great Debate” presidential interviews and a 30-minute analog interview show I did way back in 1980.
All four CDs are linked on the home page of DavidTanny.com. Thirty copies of the mass produced “Yes” are available; the other three CDs are homemade on demand.

David adds: “All this, and sections for Harry Potter and Hannah Montana stores too. Check it all out sometime. Thank you. :-)
